THRESHOLDS OF POROSITY
March 31st - May 3rd, 2026
Maison de l'enfance et de l'adolescence (MEA), Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG)
An installation created as part of the Weavise initiative
Supported by the BRIDGE Funding Program, Fondation Convergences
Production support by the Swiss Center for Design and Health
Designed as a child-friendly, trauma-sensitive therapeutic interface,
this project reimagines the entrance and waiting area as a calm, welcoming
space that begins supporting children, adolescents, and families
from the moment they arrive, even before the consultation begins.
Using light, paper, and participatory pre-session check-in and reflection
cards, the installation helps young patients feel oriented, reassured, and
actively engaged during their waiting time. The narratives and content
were developed in direct response to feedback from MEA clinicians and staff,
reflecting the needs and challenges they identify in the reception experience.
In this way, "Thresholds of Porosity" encourages us to
see the waiting space not merely as a transition area, but as
an active part of care: a space that can nurture early engagement,
emotional expression, and a shared sense of safety and trust.
